Bitumen Sheet Waterproofing Process
Overview: Bitumen sheet waterproofing is a reliable method for protecting surfaces from water ingress. Customers can choose between a single-layer or double-layer application based on their needs.
1. Surface Cleaning and Preparation:
- Inspection: Begin with a thorough inspection of the surface to identify any cracks, debris, or previous coatings.
- Cleaning: Use high-pressure water jets or mechanical methods to clean the surface, ensuring it is free of dust, oil, and other contaminants.
- Repairs: Fill any cracks or holes with a suitable repair material to create a smooth and even substrate.
2. Application of Cold Bitumen Emulsion:
- First Coat: Apply a cold bitumen emulsion evenly across the prepared surface. This coat acts as an adhesive and promotes bonding between the substrate and the bitumen sheets.
- Second Coat: After the first coat has dried, apply a second layer of cold bitumen emulsion to guarantee maximum adhesion and waterproofing.
3. Sheet Application:
- For Double Layer Waterproofing:
- First Layer: Start with the installation of a plain bitumen sheet. Fix the sheet in place using a heat gun to activate the adhesive properties. Ensure that it is securely adhered to the surface.
- Second Layer: Install a slated bitumen sheet on top of the first layer, again using the heat gun for proper adhesion. The slated sheet provides enhanced protection against water penetration.
- For Single Layer Waterproofing:
- Single Layer: If the customer opts for single-layer waterproofing, a slated bitumen sheet is applied directly over the cold bitumen emulsion without a first layer. The heat gun is used to secure the sheet, ensuring a strong bond and effective waterproofing.
4. Final Inspection:
- After the application, conduct a thorough inspection to ensure that all seams and edges are properly sealed and that there are no air bubbles or imperfections.
